Statistical spatiotemporal analysis of hydro-morphological processes in China during 1950–2015

Hydro-morphological processes (HMPs) are some of the most destructive natural disasters. Understanding spatiotemporal characteristics HMPs across China is important for enabling better disaster estimation and prevention at national scale. However, few studies have focused on HMP characterization under various geomorphic settings in China, which may shed light their regional/national evolution. To bridge this research gap, we analysed longest time series available including 47,483 records, to detect patterns. Specifically, run several tests namely, Mann–Kendall test, wavelet analysis, Monthly Frequency, Index Dispersion, with objective detecting temporal evolution, trends, period, clustering six geomorphological regions (geomorphic-regions): Eastern Plain, South Mountain (SEM), North Central Plateau, Western Basin, (SWM), Tibetan Plateau. Our results show that last decades been associated a marked increase should be accounted for, especially those areas where retrieved high (e.g., SEM, SWM). Besides, main periodicity approximately 12–25 years since 1980s, showed analogous patterns precipitation anomalies. This study provides preliminary reference revealing context climate change; therefore, information provided can crucial plan engineering applications specific return period.
